Learning Kits Making a Splash

By Adama Kone, Teacher Project

Mr. Traoré stands with the Science Learning Kit.

Mr. Daouda Traoré is a Science teacher at Jade and Gabe Mellor Middle School in Seguesona. He is 32 years old and is the father of a girl and a boy. Mr. Traoré has taught biology in Seguesona for about 5 years. He likes teaching at Jade and Gabe Mellor Middle School because it is closer to bigger town where he can easily have access to market and buy groceries or other needs for his family at any time. He also gets to see his friends very often being closer to a bigger town.

Mr. Traoré likes kids so much! One of the reasons why he loves his teaching job is being working with kids to change lives. Mr. Traoré is very determined and organizes extra classes with students sometimes to help them out. He encourages students by giving them advice like telling them that education is the key to success, good education will make them great people and famous everywhere, and they will make their parents proud of them through education and their country will be so grateful to them.

Mr. Traoré is one of the teachers who got to use the Mali Rising Learning Kits with his students recently. Talking with Mr. Traoré, he told us how useful Mali Rising’s Learning Kits are to teachers while working with students. Mr. Traoré said he mostly used science bag, which contains materials like magnifying glasses, a set of biological sketches, compasses, etc.

Our friend Mr. Traoré often worked with sketches with students. He thinks they made his life so much easier while it came to explaining his lessons to students. Mr. Traoré said that students enjoyed watching the sketches in front of them rather than drawings because the sketches entertain them and get them more focused while teacher is speaking. Mr. Traoré said whenever he used the sketches students got more excited and participated more. He thinks the materials in the Mali Rising Learning Kits are so useful they must stay in schools forever so that students and teachers work with them all the time. He cannot wait to have the bags again in Jade and Gabe Mellor Middle School of Seguesona. “With these bags, we save time and give better explanations to students that they also appreciate very much,” said Mr. Traoré.

Mr. Traoré reads and runs sometimes for fun. He was thankful to Mali Rising for the Learning Kits that he thinks not only make students excited to learn but also make their teachers’ work much easier while working with students in classroom.
