Wow. Thanks to Mali Rising donors just like you, one of our Inspiration Scholars, Sophie, helped deliver 40 babies during her nurse assistant internship.
And I used to think my internship was challenging. You?
Sophie was part of Mali Rising's very first batch of Inspiration Scholars -- outstanding Mali Rising 9th grade graduates who receive a scholarship to continue on to high school or vocational programming. Many students decide to go into health care, because there is a huge need in Mali and it is a well-respected job.
Sophie thrived in the one-year nursing program our donors sponsored. She finished her 6 months of classroom work and was sent to a busy health clinic in the little village of Mana. Apparently, there must have been a mini-baby boom in Mana and the surrounding hamlets last year! Sophie delivered more babies than any of her nursing school peers, but she was very causal about it all -- simply smiling shyly at our congratulations.
Sophie has now passed her big graduation exam and is now a full-fledged nursing assistant, ready to help her community be healthier and happier.
