When We Talk About School, We Talk About Teachers!

By Adama Kone, Teacher Project Coordinator

When we talk about school, we talk about teachers! And when we talk about teachers, we are also talking about students! This is because a well-trained, dedicated teacher makes good students.

Mr Mama Diallo is one of our brave teachers. He is a French teacher at Lareen Mellor Middle School in the village of Kassela. He is very devoted to his job.

Mr Diallo says, “I am thankful to Mali Rising for their help especially all the generous donors who are making everything possible for us.”

Mr Diallo says he is very happy to participate in the teacher peer meetings organized by Mali Rising Foundation. He has been serving as teacher for more than 10 years. At a recent Mali Rising teacher peer meeting, he presented a dictation lesson to his fellow teachers pretending to be students. He was very courageous in sharing his knowledge with his colleagues. After presenting his lesson, Mr. Diallo got a lot of feedback from his colleagues that he liked very much. In his view, critics strengthen teachers and this could be a secret tool for teachers to help improve knowledge transfer to students.

When I asked Mr. Diallo why he likes his job, he said, "I like my job because it allows me not only to support my family well but it also allows me to stay in contact with children pretty often. I really like to share my knowledge with others, especially the children at this age.”

Mr. Diallo participated our December 2019 teacher training, along with about 40 other teachers. He benefited a lot from the training which, according to him, will allow him to serve his students better.

Although he is a dedicated teacher, Mr. Diallo does have a life outside of school! He used to play soccer for fun before he hurt his knees. Now he likes to watch soccer on TV for fun. His favorite dish is rice with chicken. Diallo hates hypocrisy the most and likes peace the best. Mr Diallo says this to wrap up, “I am thankful to Mali Rising for their help especially all the generous donors who are making everything possible for us.”
