Our newest school continues to take shape in the town of Tentoubougou, Mali. Earlier this week, the classroom walls reached their full height and now they wait for the new roof to settle into place.
The new school should be complete by February 11th. This is our first school in partnership with Build a School in Africa. This great organization builds schools that are very similar to our own model, but their great crew had a lot we could learn through a partnership project. The coming together of the two organizations has been great — we have learned from their expertise and we will offer the school the full support of our programming once it is up and running…a win-win situation for the two organizations and, more importantly, for the community!
I am happy to report that despite the economic sanctions and other unrest in Mali, the construction has gone smoothly and safely. Once the school construction is complete, we will work with the community and the Ministry of Education to get it staffed and up and running as quickly as possible. Even in these uncertain times in Mali, students are eager to get an education and those classrooms will soon be full of happy learners!
