Mali Kids Go Door-to-Door Too, But Not for Halloween!
Tradition means a lot to the Malian people! We deeply love our traditions, and many things are passed on from generation to generation such as long greetings, handshakes, and blessings. One of these traditional things that children learn very early is giving and receiving blessings during two annual feasts, Tabaski and Ramadan. Tabaski was just celebrated a the end of July, and even in the time of COVID-19, our traditions continued.
Strong Girls Play Soccer
As part of our larger Girls Project, we support several girls’ soccer teams. Research shows participation in sports helps with school attendance and success. We also see it as a way to build community among our girls and to create self confidence. Also important — the whole village comes out to watch the girls compete and gets to see these fierce and strong young women in action! In this blog post, Hindaty shares her view of the first school vs. school match of the season.
On a hot and dusty day in Mali, two new Mali Rising girls’ soccer teams met for the first time. Thursday, November 28 was the first match of a football competition between the girls of the village of Tamala and those of the village of Zambougou.

Ready, Set, Walk!
It’s coming! Miles for Mali that is. Funds raised by Miles for Mali walkers will help build our 2019 school in the little village of N’Goko. What is Miles for Mali? Miles for Mali is a new virtual walking challenge, which allows participants to walk whenever it is convenient throughout the month of May. Funds raised will build a new school for the kids of Sankama, Mali!
Tired Of The Same Old Galas? Come to the Soiree!
If you're like me, you get invited to a lot of nonprofit "galas" and you've reached the point of finding it hard to rally for them, however good the cause. In case you're in that place, let me tell you why the October 12 Soiree will be a different kettle of fish altogether -- a fun kettle of fish...if that's possible.
