House parties are totally flexible – they don’t even need to be in your house or a party! I love many things about my job, but I have to admit that pretty much nothing makes me happier than the days we deliver textbooks to the hands of our students in Mali. Thanks to the generous folks at Denik, last week we did just that — handing more than 400 textbooks to the students of Denik Middle School in Zambougou.

Since joining Mali Rising's staff, I've tried to read as many books written by Malians and/or about Mali as I can. Frankly, one doesn't find scads of them here in the U.S. But I'd been hearing about The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu for a while, and was excited to see a pretty main-stream book that was set in Mali getting some attention.
