A Graduate Becomes a Nurse & Helps Others

When Mali Rising’s donors sponsor a scholarship, they really do change lives. It is a cliché, but a $500 donation to one of our graduates can turn dreams into reality for a hard working student. Take the case of Mariam Sylla as a case in point.

Strong Woman Scholarships Give Girls Hope

Children living in extreme poverty face many obstacles to their education, but girls in this situation face even more hurdles because they are victims of inequalities and suffer discrimination throughout their educational journey. Mali Rising helps girls get over those hurdles using many strategies, including Inspiration Scholarships for our outstanding graduates. This year, eight girls from current Girls’ Project villages benefited from a scholarship. Read about two of those girls’ stories…

Inspiration Scholarships Changing Lives

Students who receive Mali Rising Inspiration Scholarships tell many stories about the impact on their lives. From 2016 until today, more than 50 girls and boys have been able to study thanks to these scholarships.

After 9th grade in Mali, the government chooses the course of study for most students, including our graduates. However, the government does not ever direct any student with to a health school such as a nursing program directly after 9th grade, although these schools privately admit students at this level. According to our students who study in the field of health, only students sponsored by Mali Rising’s Inspiration Scholarships have the chance to continue their studies in health after graduating middle school.

Mariama Studies Hard at Health School

Here’s a first person story from one of our current Inspiration Scholars, Mariama, who is studying nursing with the help of her scholarship: My name is Mariama Konaté, I am 17 years old, I am currently a nursing student at the Benso School of Health in Sanankoroba . I have to do 6 months of classroom training and 6 months of practical training.

Natogoma Rises to the Challenge

We found they are both enthusiastic, proud, and very happy to see their dream becoming true by making them health workers. First, I spoke with Natogoma…

A Scholarship for Strong Women

In the complicated moments of life, some people show great kindness in helping and supporting those in need. These kind and supportive people are few in our world all too often individualistic. Mali Rising’s Strong Woman Scholarships are a legacy of love from two incredible sisters in North America.

Remembering A Sister; Changing Young Women's Lives

When we lose someone we love, we often want to find a way to help their memory live on. There are many ways to keep that memory alive. I wanted to share one way a Mali Rising supporter, who is also my mom, decided to keep her sister’s memory alive. Both my mom and my aunt have been supporters of Mali Rising’s Girl Project, but I think we’ve all been surprised at just how much my mom’s idea for making sure my aunt’s belief in the power of young women lived on has mattered to us since we lost Aunt Chris.
