This is Kadia -- an 8th grader, in the tidy, remote village of Sebela in Mali, West Africa.
In many ways, Kadia is just like any 15-year-old girl. She has a best friend and they like to study and play soccer together. She has two younger brothers and an older sister, and they all live with their grandmother in the village. Her favorite color is brown and her favorite foods are “foods that make you strong” like yams.
Kadia is a great student – in fact, she is ranked number 1 in her class. She says her favorite subjects are math and English, because doing well in those subjects helps you do better in all the other subjects.
Kadia is working hard because she wants to be a midwife – a career that will help her and hundreds of women and babies in her village.
But this is Kadia’s classroom. She pursues her dreams in what used to be a fertilizer storage hut. As a result, her education is interrupted by snakes, delayed by rain, and stifled by heat.
You can help Kadia! Despite their poverty, the parents and elders in Kadia’s village have managed to build half of a new middle school. Now they are out of funds. Together, we can help them raise the other half of the funds and create a safe learning space for more than 100 children each year.
Denik – a notebook manufacturing company with a social justice mission – has pledged half of the remaining funds. Now we just need you to give what you can from your heart for kids like Kadia. Denik will double your gift! Plus, you could win the naming rights to Kadia’s school…learn more.
