A New Principal for a New School

During a recent visit to our new school in Banko, I got to talk with the new principal for the brand new school. The principal is Mr. Mahamadou Diallo. He is thirty-four years old and the father of two children. Mr. Diallo as a principal is new to the village of Banko, but he has been a principal at another school for about five years. In fact, Mr. Diallo started his teaching career years ago far north (about 260 kilometers!) of Bamako. In addition to being principal, Mr. Diallo teaches French in all the three grades in Christiana Norris Middle School of Banko.

There's Nothing Like Watching A New School Rise

There are a lot of satisfying parts of this job, but few as pleasing as seeing a whole new school rise from the red soil of a small Mali village. Each year, Mali Rising builds just one or two schools (because we want to be sure we are also providing the support ALL of our schools need to deliver a quality education) and each one is as much of a joy to us as it is to the local village.

Travelogue: Days 9 & 10 -- Getting to Know a Potential Partner Village & Road Tripping

On of the most fun — but most challenging — things we do is select a new partner village. It is hard to do because so many villages need a middle school and truly every child deserves a chance to go to school. How can you ever select just one village!?

Travelogue: Day 8: The Ceremonial Opening of a New School!

There are few things more exciting and gratifying than seeing one of our partner villages celebrating the opening of their new school. The parents are joyful, the children are excited, and the village leaders are proud. We were able to share this wonderful experience with the village of Sankama on Day 8 of our travels in Mali….

Travelogue Day 4: Meeting the Mayor and Mana

Day four of our trip was a relatively short one, because we had to head north from the little town of Ouelessebougou back to the capitol, Bamako, to pick up a fellow traveler arriving at 2:30 pm. Still, we managed to get a lot done for Mali Rising with an early start and a lot of driving, from meeting the mayor, to visiting Mana, and more.

Did You Know You Can Sponsor A Latrine?

Did you know you can sponsor a latrine in someone’s honor? Well you can. Heck, you can even name it after yourself! Okay, the latrine might not be your first choice, but you can sponsor a classroom, the principal’s office, a solar system, or a set of textbooks for our new school in N’Goko too!

A New School for Karim

Building a new school in Mali is one of the most exciting things we do. In partnership with village parents and with donors around the world, we know that a new school means new futures for hundreds of young people in rural Mali. But sometimes knowing one young person’s story is more powerful than imagining hundreds of children. So, let us introduce Karim, who stands to benefit from your support of our next school, to be built in the little village of N’Goko.

Help Build a School for N'Goko's Kids!

One of the most exciting things we do at Mali Rising is open a new school with a partner village. A close second? Announcing a new partnership with a new village and launching the effort to raise the funds for that school. It’s just an exciting time. We’ve built a great relationship with the elders and parents of the village, and now we invite Mali Rising’s supporter to join in the relationship. It feels like something we’re all in together — an exciting friendship focused on bringing out the best in all of us. So, come along with us! We’ve just announced our newest partner village — N’Goko

It is time to get walking! Well, it is at least time to get registered to get walking!
