Mali Rising
Volunteer Job Description: Video Editors
As a small organization dedicated to doing a lot with a little, Mali Rising is deeply indebted to our volunteers. Volunteers serve many roles at Mali Rising, providing help that ranges from one-time, short shifts at an event to long-term commitments of expertise. For our more on-going volunteer positions, we like to provide a job description for the sake of clarity – if you are committing your time, you deserve clarity from us! Read on for a description of one particular volunteer job at Mali Rising – Video Editor.
Title: Video Editors (volunteer);
Work Location
The U.S. office is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and local applicants are welcome. However, this is a great virtual position – with the volunteer and staff communicating via email and video conference call.
Purpose of the Position
Video volunteers help Mali Rising tell our story in a compelling and engaging manner. Using our brand materials and images/video clips, volunteers build short video pieces for use on social media, the web, and presentations.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties varied based on your skills, but may include:
· With staff and/or other volunteers, imagining and developing compelling story lines and themes for video content.
· Creating videos based on story lines and themes using images and videos provided by staff.
· Subtitling videos created by other volunteers for use in our Virtual Library for students in Mali.
· Other special projects as identified by the Operations Coordinator and Executive Director.
Qualifications
Skills in video and/or image editing. Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability, sense of humor.
Commitment Expected
We hope you’ll commit to at least one video project, with the option to continue your engagement. We anticipate one video project will take 3 to 8 hours of your time, depending on your skills and the project tackled.
Training
We cannot provide video editing training (because we ourselves do not have those skills!), but we will provide training in our branding and story expectations. Also, the Executive Director or Operations Coordinator will be available for questions and assistance at any time, and will commit to face-to-face or online meetings during the project to make sure you get the support you need.
