Back to School Volunteer Opprotunity!

By Merritt Frey, Executive Director

As summer winds down here in the U.S., I know the back to school energy is high. As we head back to school, how about spending a little volunteer time making sure the return to school is special for some students in Mali? Join the Notes of Encouragement effort to do just that!

The Notes of Encouragement Campaign asks volunteers to write short, fun notes of encouragement to our students in Mali. These notes are fun for our students to receive, give them a little bit of a boost, and provide a fun way to practice English.

Students at Jade & Gabe Mellor Middle School check out their notes from Mali Rising volunteers. The international notes are exciting in villages without email…or even a postal service! Plus the notes give students a fun way to practice their English skills.

Our goal for the 24/25 school year? To provide a note to every single one of our students — that’s about 4,000 notes!

This is a great project if you have just one hour or ten to donate. This is also a really great group or family project for an afternoon or evening. Depending on how much you decorate your notes (or not), we estimate it takes about an hour to create 10 notes (the minimum commitment).

Instructions are provided. We feel a bit short of the goal of a note for every student last school year….YOU could make the difference this year! Learn more and sign up here.
